Is DE (Diatomaceous Earth) the cure-all for bed bugs? If you do a simple Internet search, you will find many blogs and other unverified sites that claim that diatomaceous earth will get rid of bed bugs. It is a powder that they claim you should spread throughout your home to eliminate an infestation. It seems convincing because the powder is inexpensive and readily available. There are also many claims that DE is non-toxic or natural. Don’t be fooled by these statements.
Although the substance does kill bed bugs, it only kills the bugs it comes into contact with. After the bed bugs come into contact with this substance, they cannot hydrate and eventually die.
Most people do not understand, though, that although this substance may be able to eliminate some bugs, it does not eliminate the infestation. Many bugs can avoid it, and you are often unable to see all the places where bed bugs have come to reside in your home. In short, it will NOT solve your bed bug problem.
More than half of the homes that we treat are covered with DE.
Cons to using diatomaceous earth:
There are possible health repercussions from using this substance!!
The powder can cause issues with respiratory health in humans and pets that come from breathing in the dust!
Also, DE is very hard to clean once it has been used.
It takes a very long time to kill some if any of the bed bugs in your home and your home is covered in this ugly powder for extended periods of time.
DO NOT PUT DE ON YOUR BED, COUCH, OR ANY SURFACE YOU COME INTO CONTACT WITH REGULARLY TO AVOID DE BECOMING AIRBORNE!
If you have bed bugs, don’t put off the problem. Doing so will only make it worse and cause you and your family additional pain and suffering. Save yourself the trouble and call the professionals at Dallas Heat Pest.
